CVS pharmacy is one of the most successful drug store
chain in America
CVS Pharmacy is a major
pharmacy chain with stores in almost every US state. CVS operates about
5,450 stores out of 36 states and DC. Only Walgreen can boast more sales
than CVS. They are one of the leading experts at reading bad handwriting.
CVS acquires Eckerd Drugs in mid 2004 making it the second largest
drug store chain in the US. They went online when they bought Soma.com
later renamed CVS.com.
The first CVS store opened in 1963 and
in 1985 CVS hit 1 billion in sales. In 1997 they bought the Revco line
which added 2552 more stores to the chain. This was the most successful
acquisition in the history of the US.
In 1998 they acquired 207 more stores
from Arbor Drugs, Inc. At this time Ton Ryan became the third CEO of the
chain. He started working for the company in 1978 as a pharmacist. He
administered the first successfully integrated online pharmacy on the
internet.
In 2001 CVS recorded a record breaking
sales of 22 billion and continues to grow opening new stores in high
population areas like Dallas and Los Vegas.
CVS continues to prosper in 2004 with
new stores always in the planning. It is one of the most successful chain
of drug stores on the face of the earth. |
